Or they should have talked merger, even if Apple said no.<br /><br />Apple will probably have to buy a service provider sometime soon. The question is whether when it's ready to make it's move if AT&T even makes sense anymore. The problem is AT&T is heavily invested in old hardware and comes with a horrible reputation to boot. Apple might be better off buying a smaller carrier like MetroPCS and upgrading them or even creating a Wi-Max service from scratch.<br /><br />I suspect Apple will first open the iPad and iPhone to other carriers and let them fight amongst themselves for a few years.
